Whisper in my veins... a poem by Veronica Farmer

Picture
It lands lightly
when it happens
Your eyes
when they narrow
twist a cog in my being
a newness

So light
easy
slow

I like this
gentle play
of new friendship

I wonder about you
between the traffic lights
and
waiting for chai

The depth of your voice
a new whisper
in my veins

I think I like this part best
before we know each other
While it is still a book
unopened

I wonder how your touch would be
Do you want it?
An interrupt to chaos
A lover to savour lightly
Would you lay aside your scars
as you release?

I think you understand
I am not usual
No need or want for the ordinary expression
of ownership
of holding
of more than presence

Your pain pulls
an old wind up musicbox tune I used to play
The desire to escape from the adult self
I know that exquisite alone feeling
I do

Or is this merely a sweet unreal thought
an escape from routine
fodder for poetry
opening warmth in the chest
and the loins?
Just a floating smile
in an ordered day

Either way
I am grateful for the energy you bring
If only for a heartbeat in time
